Body Mass Index (BMI) has often questionably been used to define building muscles. In the present study body build was defined more specifically using fat free mass index (FFMI = fat free mass normalised to the stature) and fat mass index (FMI = fat mass normalised to stature). The body build of an individual is ‘solid’ in individuals with a high FFMI for their FMI and is ‘slender’ in individuals with a low FFMI relative to their FMI. The aim of the present study was to investigate the association between aerobic test performance and body build defined as solid, average or slender in 10 to 15 year old children. Five- hundred-and-two children (53% boys) aged 10 to 15 years of age were included in the study. Aerobic test performance was estimated with an incremental cycle ergometer protocol and a shuttle run test. BMI and percentage fat (burn body fat by skin folds) were determined to calculate FMI and FFMI. After adjustment for differences in age, gender and body mass the solid group achieved a significantly higher maximal power output (W) and power output relative to body mass (W/kg) during the cycle test (p<0.05) and a higher shuttle-run score (p<0.05) compared to the slender group. The power output relative to FFM (W/kg FFM) was comparable (p>0.05) between different body build groups. This study showed that body build is an important determinant of the aerobic test performance. In contrast, there were no differences in aerobic test performance per kilogramme FFM over the body build groups. This suggests that the body build may be determined by genetic predisposition.

It was shown that in the studied age group the aerobic test performance is better in children with a solid body build compared to children with a slender body build. The power output relative to FFM is comparable over the three groups. Because the capacity per FFM is associated with exercise training, the results suggest that body build status is determined by genetics, rather than by physical exercise at this age. In future research it is relevant to investigate possible differences in aerobic test performance between overweight children with a solid, average or slender body build, burn fat and health differences between different body build groups.

The most important thing for any business to succeed is advertising. Therefore business owners and entrepreneurs constantly lookout for legitimate and profitable advertising venues. Paid to surf or auto surf programs are particular type of online advertising where members sign up with programs that display advertisements in their browser. The person is paid for each site viewed. This is also called traffic exchange program.

A pay-to-surf company would provide a “view bar” to be installed on a member’s computer. This view bar tracks web sites that the user visited, advertiser pays the pay-to-surf companies a small amount for every hour of a member’s surfing.

Of all the venues the newest and fastest growing venue is auto surf programs. These auto surf programs are traffic exchanges that automatically rotate advertised websites in a person’s Internet browser. They bring a huge amount of traffic to an advertised website.

In this program the timer keeps track of how many websites have been visited by the person and pay accordingly. And this payment relatively varies to the amount invested. That is if the membership level is 12 dollars and the money paid is 2 percent a day, the person get s a payment of .24 dollars for viewing x (the maximum number of sites) a day.

Paid auto surf programs pay people for viewing a certain amount of websites on an average 30 to 100 websites per day. Every site is usually shown for a certain amount of time. In the case of investment auto surf advertisers are encouraged to pay a fee or join or upgrade their account level.

Once a threshold has been reached, the money is sent through cheque or online payment account. The person who invested first has a better chance of earning than the people who invested after him. The people down line are known as “referrals”. Most of these programs use the pyramid scheme.

Paid auto surf programs are one of the easiest ways to make money through Internet .No investment is needed, no expensive equipment is needed to join in an auto surf program and just signing in for that program and viewing the advertisement is enough. The advertisements will run on the side of the screen and some of these websites offer paid membership.

Depending on the popularity, auto surf sites have a rather short lifespan, usually from one week to a few years. If a person decides to invest or advertise through auto surf programs, it is better to diversify investments by joining in more than one program at a time. Old and reliable programs are trust worthier. A program that is recommended by many people is a legitimate program. Website is a good source of information in an unbiased manner.

To maximize the earnings, a company with a nominal rate is better and a good amount of interest will yield good money back faster and thus earn more income.

Good choice, you have chosen Barbados as the destination for your Caribbean surf trip, the warm waters of the Barbados are every surfers dream, leave your wetsuit at home, all you’ll need to brave these water are your boardshorts and a rashguard… and oh yeah Sunblock.

There are a number of local websites which can help you with everything from accommodation and car rental to hooking you up with a competent surf tour company. Local sites are better because not only do they have first hand knowledge of information you may require, but they are generally more up to date.

One of the things that makes this island and ideal surf destination (apart from the fact that there is always something to surf) is its size, you are never more than 45 minutes away from the surf. Therefore when choosing your accommodation it is best to look for somewhere along the coast that is central in terms of surf breaks, we would advise the south between long beach and Maxwell or Dover. Any good local surf site can give you a list of options for accommodation that welcomes surfers.

You’ve got your tickets, booked your accommodation and you must now decide whether to take your own board or hire one when you get there. Personally I think it is better to hire a board when you get there for several reasons. The first is that you risk damage to your board on the flight (the airlines do not accept responsibility and even if it does you are still without your board for all or at least part of your trip). Secondly you have to pay to transport the board anyway. Third is that there are several breaks on the island and one board may not be the best choice as conditions from break to break vary, when you rent a board from one of the better companies they allow you to change off to a longer or shorter board as conditions change. Much more convenient and it makes for the best out of each break.

The number of breaks in this small island is mind boggling for its size. The Soup Bowl on the east coast is the premier break on the island and is an advanced break with powerful waves that can top 12 ft when it goes off and is frequented by Kelly Slater whenever he is on the island. The soup bowl is like a magnet, if there is any swell around it will catch it. Its sister break “Parlour” which is separated from the soup bowl by just a boulder can be just as enjoyable with a smaller line-up.

The south coast has several breaks and which is the top spot depends on who you ask but it is generally agreed that the three at the top of the list are South Point, Freights and Brandons (Drill Hall). There are many other breaks on the South, some are known breaks and are listed by many surf sites on the net, some of them are secret spots and are known mainly to locals. For this reason we recommend that you contact one of the surf companies that offer surf tours and really experience the best surf on the island.

The west coast of the island only goes off on a north swell, but oh when it does. Perfection. While many of the breaks may seem to be a surfers dream, many may have their own hazards and this is another reason that we highly recommend that you utilize the services of a local surf tour company who can guide you through the do’s and don’ts, another benefit is that transportation and boards are included in their cost.

In the event that you decide to brave the breaks on your own you will seriously need to consider renting a car to get to the different breaks in this case bring your own soft racks as very few, if any, car rental companies carry racks and most companies frown on surfboards being carried on their cars. In most cases they will allow it but they definitely do not encourage it.

Surf fishing has become quite popular with many anglers. It offers a great way to go fishing, have a good time and be very productive in the process.

There are many anglers that prefer not to go out on a boat when fishing and this method offers a wonderful alternative because surf fishing can be just as fun and rewarding as boat fishing.

Some of the fish that you can expect to catch when surf fishing includes bluefish, mackerel, trout, bass and flounder.

Surf fishing can be enjoyed by anglers of all ages ranging from the very young to the elderly. It is also done by the novice fishermen and experienced ones alike.

Surf fishing can be a fun and exciting way to spend your free time. Below you can find some great surf fishing strategies that will help you get consistent catches each time you go fishing along the oceans shoreline.

When and How to Go Surf Fishing

The best time to go surf fishing is in the spring and fall. During this time you will have the best opportunities to reel in better quality fish in larger quantities.

There are also less people on the beaches during this time of year so you can move around more freely and enjoy a little more privacy. When there are lots of people on the beaches and playing in the water it scares the fish away.

Fish close to the shore at all times. After all, it is surf fishing and if you cast your line too far out you will be missing the bulk of where the fish are located.

You should actually cast your line parallel with the sand for the best results. Fishing during the half tides will be much easier than during high tides and you will get more bites during this time. Half tides are usually during the early morning or late evening. Fishing along the break of the waves can also be very productive.

Find the areas where reefs, rocks, holes and similar hiding places are located and concentrate on these areas. This is where the most fish will be. Inlets and channels are also great locations. However, it is best to fish these areas when the tide is going out. The tide will carry your bait out to sea and the fish laying in wait for food will take it much faster.

Techniques and Baits

One clue as to where the fish are located is where all the birds tend to gather. Therefore, you should look for birds and bait fish and you will most likely find the locating of a school of fish.

The birds feed off of the same baitfish that the fish feed off of. When you see swirls on the top of the water this is a sign of fish feeding and a good place to throw in your line. Sometimes the fish will even jump completely out of the water so keep your eyes open.

Surfing is an amazing adventure sport. This is not the sport for everybody, but for the people who can handle the thick waves of the beach. The surfboard can be of any size – from less than three feet surfboards to 11 ft surfboards are available today. However, the size of the surfboard is no match to the skill and technique of the surfers. To stay afloat over the tides is the one important thing of surfing. Being able to catch the right tide (or wave), engaging at the right moment, staying at the right position and staying cleared of barriers like reefs or floating materials, etc are all desirable surfing skills.

It is not just about riding a wave, but also executing various manoeuvres. A good surfer is made only when he or she is able to catch the difficult waves, staying clear of dangers and performing tricks before finishing the ride. Not being hit by the wave. Tube riding is the dream of all surfers. It is about riding inside the wave, without the wave touching you down. It is quite amusing to see the wave curling over you and you are moving ahead of the wave, without letting the wave strike you down. It is the most difficult thing to achieve in surfing.

Turning and carving, cutback, off the lip, floater, etc are some skills surfers will be achieving pretty quickly. These skills are not learned from the land. You can learn these only after you get in the water, riding the waves. You can also get surfing lessons from experienced surfers, who will give you one-on-one lessons.

Not all the beaches and surf breaks are ideal for beginners. Only experienced surfers can attempt the risky surfs. The training is given only at areas of consistent wave activity and winds. Otherwise, it will become difficult. After getting the lessons at breaks that have more or less stable surfing conditions, you can go to more challenging areas.

Once you get into the groove, it is one great passion. You will enjoy the surfing so much and you will be willing to experiment with various types of surfboards, techniques and locations. Some surfers are so passionate about the local surf breaks, that they don’t let tourists in and even threaten physical assault, when their territory is violated. Not all locations are like that and you can see surf breaks around the world, where you get warm welcome.

The safety guidelines to all kinds of water sports apply to surfing too. You need to be able to manage the tides without the board and you should be careful not to go near rocks, reefs or dangerous creatures like jelly fish, sharks, etc.

You get into surfing for once and you can experience the all consuming passion associated with the sport. Beach holidays or vacations can also include surfing as an option – although not all beaches for suited for surfing. OK, if you have this passion to surfing, it is good time you have, with your riding at great speeds over the waves.

Computers have become part of everyone’s life now-a-days. Whether it is offices, banks, restaurants and shops, you can see computers everywhere. They have become part and parcel of life. Computers come with various accessories called computer equipment. Computer equipment may include processors, desktop monitors, LCD display monitors, plasma monitors, computer projector screens, printers, and scanners. No company can do without computers. To run a company, especially if it is a software company or a company that deals in content writing, it needs computers.

Computers occupy space and so does computer equipment. Since companies are also facing the problem of shortage of spaces, they need cabinets to store computer equipment. Computer equipment cabinets can be really handy and help companies logistically place computers in their premises, saving space as well as money. There are various manufacturers that offer computer equipment cabinets. Some of these companies deal in sheet metal parts and cabinets.

The internet can be fun and educational. But it can also be dangerous and threatening. Largely unmonitored and uncensored, it is a mixed environment which can be a source of material and intellectual sustenance for you, but it can also bring a lot of annoyance with it, and even cause damage to your near and dear ones.

There are certain Surf Safety tips you can adopt to avoid the typical pitfalls that await the careless surfer on the web. First, there is the nuisance of the unwanted pop-up. These can sometimes be of a pornographic nature, causing undue harassment and embarrassment in public situations. In order to suppress these, use a modern browser like the Internet Explorer enhanced with Windows Service Pack 2. An even better choice is the freely downloadable Firefox browser.

Also beware of spyware programs and other malware that can get installed on your computer without your direct endorsement. A useful strategy is never to click on any window that offers such a service unless it is from a known and trusted source. Also, use one of the freely available spyware removal programs to rid your system of these threats.

Viruses, worms and trojans are rampant on the web; an unprotected Windows system can get infected in a matter of minutes after getting connected to the internet. Install one of the commercial anti-virus solutions from Norton, Macafee or other companies to protect yourself from this kind of threat as far as possible. Very good free anti-virus products are also downloadable from locations on the internet.

A more radical strategy to beat the threat of viruses and worms would be to opt for an Operating System other than Windows. If you aren’t inclined to buy an Apple Macintosh machine, you may consider installing Linux on your existing computer. No real virus has yet been invented for the Linux environment, and it is unlikely that one will appear as a real threat in the near future, because of the excellent inherent security model of that system. You can choose from a number of free Linux systems. If you can’t do it yourself, you can find a paid support provider who will install and configure it for you.

Use a firewall to rid yourself of unwanted connections to and from your computer. The firewall built into Windows XP is effective, but not configurable. For a more flexible solution, try ZoneAlarm, a feature-limited demo of which can be downloaded here. If you’re using Linux or at least using a Linux box as a gateway, you can experience the great power and configurability of its built-in iptables firewall.

Whatever browser you use, it is best not to keep checked any option that will let it download and install programs unsupervised. Many harmful programs get installed in this way.

If you’re using Windows, create a non-administrator account for yourself and use that for all normal purposes. This way, any virus or malware that gets in shall have a very hard time getting activated.

Under Windows, most harmful programs use a particular feature in the Internet Explorer browser to get installed. This feature is known as ActiveX. To avoid this weakness, use any of the free non-Microsoft browsers available. Firefox is one, a link to which has been given above.

A new type of online threat is known as phishing. Fake web pages are constructed that look like your bank’s website, or that of your stockbroker. You are invited to enter your credit card numbers and other sensitive information, which are then used for illegal purposes. Always double-check the address whenever you are asked to enter any such info. Firefox has an inherent capacity to detect phishing sites.

Never download files from unverified sources that have a dot-exe or a dot-com extension. These are the commonest carriers of viruses and other malware, and can cause a lot of grief if handled by inexperienced hands.

What if I told you that your surfing will take on a whole new meaning once you have have cultivated physical, mental and spiritual growth. If you’re like me, your first question might be “Ok, what’s the catch? Do I have to quit smoking and eat beet greens every day?” The answer is “yes,” those things are no-brainer’s. But the real secret lies in a growing phenomenon that is deeply rooted in history – surf yoga.

Your ability to surf better is directly related to your core strength, balance, your focus and determination and your mental and spiritual well-being. Improving your ability in the water just doesn’t happen with out a good surfing fitness program. Yoga is practiced by many of the world’s best surfer’s, most notably 9-time World Title holder Kelly Slater. Kelly is just one of thousands of surfer’s who practice surf yoga as a ritual, and the benefits are obvious; improved performance in the water, improved mental health and improved physical well-being.

Disciplining yourself and getting to know your body in this way may be something new to you, so take it easy at first and then push yourself once you have an idea of where your limits are. Learning what your body is actually capable of will not only surprise you, but will translate directly into more radical turns, faster recoveries from slip-ups and falls, and overall harmony with the waves.

Yoga for Surfers borrows the best poses and exercises from other Yoga disciplines and combines them into a routine that targets specific muscle groups, builds the inner body strength surfers need, and provides the same mental focus lessons that have benefited all peoples for centuries. After becoming familiar with your body’s needs, you will develop a shortened routine that you can practice on the beach before every session out. You will come to love this time just before paddling out; your opportunity to bring mind, body and spirit together.

The opening prayer for the practice of yoga reads:

”Because I want more peace of mind and stability in life, I faithfully practice Yoga as it has been passed down by the surf gurus.”

I’ve taken the liberty of adding “surf” into the mantra before “gurus” just for you. Recite it a couple times. Close your eyes and clear your head for a moment. Set aside your worries and inhibitions. Breathe deeply and slowly a few times. Picture yourself flashing the peace sign as you tuck into a perfect barrel. Feel the crystal clear blue water as it spills over your shoulder. Now, relax your body and focus on the words “surf gurus” and you’ve got it. You’re ready to start practicing surf yoga and soon you will be opened up to a whole new perspective on life, and most importantly, surfing.

All surfers are young at heart, but the harsh reality is that the body just doesn’t keep up. If you want to continue to surf better, then you need to start looking after your body. Surf Yoga is a whole lot more fun that running on a treadmill, lifting weights, or just plain stretching. Yoga for surfers is really an extension of the sport you already love. Embrace it now, or you may as well start giving away waves to the kids next time you paddle out.

Surfing is a water sport where you attempt to carry yourself while riding a surfboard on a breaking wave. Apart from surfboards, surfers also use other carrying equipment such as kayaks, water skis, long boards and even kneeboards.

Surfing started off as a recreational, fun activity and is now a billion-dollar industry, what with companies getting into the sponsorship act because they want their sports merchandise to be hyped around and sold.

The Surf Culture

There are three kinds of surfers – those who want to surf because of the money, those who want to surf for the fun and recreation it offers, and those who are professional surfers, but don’t want to sell their souls for money – the last category of guys are known as soul surfers.

Common surfing terminology

Regular foot: When you place your right foot on the back of surfboard

Goofy foot: When the left foot is placed on the back of the surfboard

Take off: When you begin the ride

Drop in: Dropping into the wave

Duck dive: Diving underwater along with your board, like a duck, and then emerging as the wave breaks

Snaking: Going around some other surfer

Shoulder: The part of the wave that doesn’t break into surf

Over the falls: When you go out of control

Pump: a movement that generates speed

Stall: Slowing down the speed of your board

Floater: Riding on top of the breaking part of the wave

Hang-five/hang-ten: Placing five or ten toes over the nose of a longboard.

Re-entry: Hitting the brim of the wave and re-rentering the wave in quick succession.

Tube riding: Riding inside the curl of a wave

Carve: Turns

Air/Aerial: Riding the board briefly into the air above the wave and then landing back on the wave.

Surfing dangers

Every sport has some danger associated with it and surfing is no exception. The main danger of surfing is of drowning, and if a surfer is not confident of swimming back to the shore in case he loses his board, then he must not venture out alone or in dangerous waters.

Then there is the chance of a surfer colliding with another surfer, or on rocks or reefs, and rendering himself unconciousness in the sea. The precaution to take would be to surf in a group or have someone watch you from the shore.

Then there are sharks too – but that is a negligible danger.

Training to surf

To surf, you need to have solid upper body strength, which can give you the wherewithal to fight for at least 5-10 minutes against a strong wave, after which you need to have the strength to swim back to the shore. So, for the upper body you need medium-intensive weight training. Push ups too are a great exercise to develop upper body strength.

Then you need low-medium weight training for your lower body muscles because while swimming you move your hips and legs quite a bit.

Along with strength you need to build up endurance and stamina too and for these, you can take up jogging, running or any aerobic exercise that will improve your cardiavascular system. You also need to stretch your limbs and get your flexibility going because surfing needs you to be flexible as you navigate around the rough waves.

A good, healthy diet and nutrition will make you feel light and enjoy surfing a lot more than you ever expected.

Go ahead, hang ten and gimme five!
